From shear transformations to the Pythagorean theorem
Abstract
This paper describes some teaching experiments carried out in the first two years of High School: the focus is on the concept of equivalence by using shear transformations. The goal was to show some properties of polygons and to prove the Pitagora’s theorem by using the geometry of the transformations and through the utilisation of a dynamic Geometry software.
